MTO is uniquely situated to capitalise on the tourism gems of South Africa, namely the Western Cape and Garden Route in the Cape, and the iconic Kruger Park and Lowveld areas. Given our geographic location, it is only right that we are exploring ways of allowing a greater population to enjoy these areas with us. From the iconic Tsitsikamma Hiking Trail along the Garden Route, or the peaceful shore line of Klipkoppie dam outside White River, we have something for everyone.

Our main focus to date has been the Cape plantations, as this is where our company originated. The Tsitsikamma Hiking Trail is a Green Flag trail starting in Nature’s Valley and ending at Storms River Bridge. This trail traverses the spectacular Tsitsikamma Mountains and has become renowned for its diverse fauna and flora as well as its magnificent huts and facilities. A popular option that is offered is our portage packages that allow you to enjoy the trail without too much weighing you down as you explore the fynbos and indigenous forests on foot.

For those that prefer a bit more speed we have various MTB trails in most of plantations and are actively looking at expanding our network by building trails that we are sure are going to set the standard. After the devastating fires of 2015 we are busy rebuilding the iconic Jonkershoek valley trails to cater for likes and skill levels. Our involvement in trail sports is growing on an annual basis and this can be seen in our partnership and sponsorship of various MTB and trail running events around the year.

In the Lowveld we are busy exploring how we can capitalise on the rugged beauty of our plantations and resurrect some of the facilities that were there in the past. A lot of our plantations are well suited for both hiking and mountain biking and we are busy working on expanding our trail network.

An exciting off-shoot of our trails and our partnership with trail sport is opening up our areas to the youth of our communities through sports academies and organised coaching days. This not only brings our communities closer to us but allows us to develop and nurture talent from a young age and hopefully also instill our love for the outdoors to a wider audience.
